Episode 9: Reeeeee, E3: Part 1

Are you ready for vidya games, alcohol, and tangents? Hopefully you are because Episode 9 is now live! E3 is under way so Brandi and John discuss what they’re the most hyped about from the expo’s early announcements.

Our beer this week is Elevator Lady by the Unknown Brewing Company. It was another gift from CraftBrewGeek! Along with following him on Instagram, you should be following his super cute dog, too!

He shared the beer with us during an event at the West Sixth Farm celebrating their 1 year anniversary! We even got them to put up one of our awesome stickers! It’s placed right next to the Craft Brew Geek one!

Sadly, we didn’t get one of the slick pint glasses they made for the event.

We were hoping to add a companion glass to our West Sixth 7th anniversary glasses. John snagged a bonus one for Brandi.

Brandi’s latest podcast obsession is Ologies by Alie Ward. If you listen to the Mixology episode, you too can make killer gin and tonics like this one John threw together.

Tons of awesome stuff got announced during the opening days of E3, including Xbox Game Pass for PC! For $5 a month, it seems like a good deal if you like a lot of games from Microsoft Game Studios.

The game Brandi and John are both the most excited about is Cyberpunk 2077. Do you like cyberpunk stuff? Guns? Hacking? Cybernetics? Keanu Reeves? Then this should be a must play game. The new trailer was… breathtaking.

If you think it looks good, it’s also probably worthwhile to check out their 48 minute gameplay demo from August of 2018.

The best video, though, is when Keanu Reeves came on stage right after it was revealed that he’s going to be in the game. People lost their shit in the best way possible.

The dude who told Keanu that he’s breathtaking got a free game out of it just because CD Project Red is awesome. You can support CD Project Red directly by buying the game DRM-free from GOG. Their new GOG Galaxy desktop client is pretty slick, and you can even periodically redeem free copies of games you already own on Steam for free with GOG Connect. Brandi and John might stream Cyberpunk 2077 to their Twitch channel with Squad Streaming. It’s slated to release on April 16, 2020.

Brandi really enjoyed the Ori and the Blind Forest, so she’s stoked about the sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps… even if it looks like there’s a decent bit of being chased involved. It’s coming out on February 11, 2020.

Minecraft Dungeons is something both Brandi and John are looking forward to grinding for gear in. They’ll be able to play it in the spring of 2020.

Also coming out in early 2020 is Dragon Ball Project Z if you’re a millenial who wants to get your nostalgia on.

As an RTS scrub, John is looking forward to playing Age of Empires II Definitive Edition. He’s going to lose so many multiplayer matches. He’ll be getting his ass kicked when it releases in the fall of 2019.

He won’t have a ton of time to play it, though, because he’s going to completely abandon the rest of his life for a new MMO addiction when Phantasy Star Online 2 drops in the spring of 2020. The original Phantasy Star Online birthed the insane GameCube controller with a full QWERTY keyboard in the middle.

Long before he plays that, though, Brandi will be getting her loot on in Borderlands 3, which releases on September 13, 2019. If you’re excited about it, too, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a free DLC that acts as a segue for the story between the two games called Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary. If you’ve not played the Borderlands games but want to, be sure to check out the Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, which is Brandi’s absolute favorite.

Think that was a lot of gaming news? Next week we’ll be back with even more games from E3! Be sure to keep an eye out for it on Podbean or your favorite podcast service. Stay pink!

Episode 8: Playlists and Privacy

Episode 8 has been released (a few days ago, but John was unproductive with regard to writing this post) for your enjoyment. Listen to Brandi and John note some fun updates regarding the Unusually Pink Playlist and share some of our favorite privacy tools for browsing the web!

Do you need to know how to own your photos without doing the always-embarrassing hover-hand? Check out John’s brilliant performance at Disneyland. Note how well his shirt matches!

Not doing the hover-hand almost makes up for that mustache he had. Almost.

Our beer this episode was brought to you by the always awesome CraftBrewGeek. Check him out on Instagram and Twitter! He gave us awesome shoutouts during the Country Boy beer cheese competition. Donations to this year’s competition benefit Old Friends Farm.

The beer was the slightly-too-sour Blackberry Sour from West Sixth. Pucker up!

For more of the Unusually Pink Adventures In Alcohol, if you happen to be in central Kentucky you should check out Castle & Key. Brandi and John are enjoying their vodka and gin while their bourbon ages. They also have some of the most scenic grounds you can find at a distillery. Just look at the pictures below if you don’t believe us.

If you’re in the area, you should go just a couple of minutes down the road to get a meal at The Stave, home of amazing food and even more amazing cocktails.

If you like what Castle & Key has going on, we’d recommend you follow their former master distiller who started their bourbon on the path to success along with their adorable catbassador on Instagram! Brandi and John have both been privileged to pet Rick so try not to be too jealous.

Have no idea what we’re talking about when we reference the Unusually Pink Playlist? Wonder no more. You should most definitely follow it on Spotify if you aren’t already.

Are you looking to upgrade your online security? No matter your browser of choice, you should scope out uBlock Origin for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Not enough? You can also add Privacy Badger from the EFF to your Chrome and Firefox repertoire. If you’d like to support the EFF even more while also getting your learn on, check out the Humble Hacking 2.0 Bundle. John bought it this weekend! Wanting to go to the next level with a VPN because you don’t trust 1.) your ISP, 2.) public WiFi or 3.) both? You may want to look into Private Internet Access or TunnelBear. Just be aware this won’t help you for things like Google tracking what you purchase when you send receipts to your Gmail account. In that case you should consider looking into ProtonMail. DNS is also a massive source of information leaks (if not content), especially if you use the DNS servers from your ISP. You should at least consider using something like

Are you using Windows and worried that Windows 10 is spying on you? Learn how to turn off a lot of Microsoft’s data-gathering here. Even better, if you’re using Windows 7 you should perhaps consider doing the same thing as the government of South Korea and using Linux instead of upgrading to Windows 10.

Is your password game weak? If so you should absolutely upgrade to a password manager. Not using a password manager? Then I have bad news… your password game is WEAK. We recommend checking out a few good candidates like:

Episode 7: The Salt of Thrones

Episode 7 has arrived, and with it a lot of salt. If you need to temper the amount of sodium in your life, check out BLACKPINK, as featured in our Unusually Pink Playlist. I’d also recommend sipping some bourbon, just like Brandi and John in this episode.

We start slinging salt by mentioning how our plans for BlizzCon have changed. We’ve got a post with all of the NaCl-generating details available here. We also get pretty salty with the ending to Game of Thrones, which made no sense. Even Samwell seemed pretty confused at the end.

If you want to read some stuff by David Benioff that won’t be super disappointing like the writing for the last couple of seasons of Game of Thrones, check out his books The 25th Hour and City of Thieves. If you’re looking for shows to fill the Game of Thrones-sized void in your life, try watching Chernobyl, which is airing now. In a few weeks, Brandi and John will be eagerly watching the first episode in Season 3 of The Handmaid’s Tale, scheduled for June 5th. In the fall of 2019 we’ll be looking forward to the new Watchmen series.

If you want to be pink, you may want to scope out shoes by NOBULL. They’re all pretty amazing, though we’re partial to the pink trainers John recently bought.

If you need a new phone and don’t want to drop $1000 on a flagship, you may want to consider the Pixel 3a or 3a XL. If you’re interested, you should watch the MKBHD review:

John’s eyeing up the “Purple-ish” color and showing it off with this clear “case”.
